Obesity is a problem that concerns a majority of the populace. The problem became more dominant in the late 19th century primarily because of two reasons. First, people started to eat junk and fast food that are low on nutrients and high on fats and carbohydrates. Secondly, advancement of technology helped in lowering the physical activity that man used to perform earlier. Hence man gained more weight day by day and soon obesity became a worldwide phenomena.

Over the years, man gained a better insight of obesity and its effect on the human body. Obesity is responsible for a majority of deaths but it  remains hidden as the primary cause of death is credited to a disease or an ailment. Doctors and health experts demonstrate that obesity is not a disease but a medical condition that is responsible for triggering various types of diseases and syndromes. But there’s aways a silver lining to the cloud and there are ways following which you can spare yourself from obesity. The most traditional way to overcome the horrors of obesity is by exercising.

Exercising is easy for those who are physically fit and are associated with physical workout and gym earlier. But the same thing becomes a daunting task for those who are overweight as their body finds it difficult withstand the sudden pressure of workout and physical exercise. For most patients, exercising is a futile endeavor for reducing weight as they give up on it on the initial stages because of the physical challenges it encompass. Patients who are having difficulty in performing exercises and are planning to give up on the overall idea of reducing weight can breathe a sigh of relief as there are alternative procedures for reducing weight that involves less or no physical activity at all. Below mentioned are some tips and guidelines following which you can effectively reduce weight without breaking bones doing physical workout.

Drink plenty of water: Drink plenty of water especially before meals. Water occupies a good amount of space in your stomach thus forbidding you to consume excess food that adds up to your weight. It has other benefits as well like helping in digestion and keeping the body hydrated.

Follow a proper diet: Diet is the most important aspect to think of when you wish to reduce weight without exercise. Eat plenty of green vegetables, fruits, and food that are low on carbohydrates and fat. Balanced diet doesn’t mean that you should restrict  consuming food or certain food items but it means eating the right food in the right proportions. Don’t restrict to a particular food item/items as this can cause nutritional deficiencies. Stick more to natural food items and stay away from processed and junk food.

  •      Maintain good eating habits: Maintaining good eating habits means maintaining proper time of eating food. Eat food at regular intervals. Many dietitians believe that for staying healthy and fit one must eat food after every 3 hours. But the food consumed should be low in quantity and high in nutritive quality. You must not stay hungry for long and binge excess amount of food afterwards as it will create digestive imbalances which will  in turn increase your weight.
  •      Walking and jogging: Walking in the morning and after dinner helps in increasing your metabolism rate and jogging is extremely good for your heart and helps in burning fat. So indulge in doing both as they don’t involve weight lifting and push-ups while you can still burn your fat efficiently and reduce weight.
  •      Practice yoga and breathing exercises: Yoga and breathing exercise are a boon for those who hates going to the gym. Yoga exercises are easy to perform and provides you with a wide range of health benefits. Hence practicing yoga is advisable to those who wants to reduce their weight without hitting the gym.
  •     Fight away stress and anxiety: Anxiety and stress can release the hormones that triggers hunger. In fact studies revealed that people that suffer from stress and tension starts eating more then usual in order to suppress their feelings. Hence keep anxiety and stress at bay with techniques such meditation, socializing with friends and family, etc.

By following the above tips you can surely fight obesity effectively without going to the gym. Staying persistent is the key to success as you won’t see difference after practicing the above methods for a week but will surely feel the remarkable change after a month or two.

    Very true!
    This just proves that eating sensibly and leading an active lifestyle can actually make you shed weight and stay fit. One does not have to exercise like an obsessed maniac ( I see so many people doing that at the gym and then eating a huge McBurger on their way back home!) to shed those extra pounds.
    The fact that stress and anxiety can also trigger off hunger pangs is news for me, however.

    Hi, there are some really great comments here. I’ve always been interested in health and fitness and have exercised regularly for many years. I’m now in my late 30′s and recently found it a little bit more difficult to stay in shape and have the odd cake or biscuit.

    As we get older we do tend to gain weight and it is harder to lose. You have some great ideas here & I believe that your diet is more important than exercise. The key is stayng consistant with the tips you provided and they should work great at helping you lose weight

    I agree, drinking plenty of water, and keeping yourself in routine in terms of dieting would help in reducing weight, there is no doubt about it.

    Just by cutting out soda and replacing it with water I lost 20 pounds in 2 months. It showed me that exercise probably isn’t the cause of my weight problem.

    I agree that the most important aspect of losing weight without exercise is diet. The more fruits and vegetables, proteins and whole grains you consume, the better. Eating foods such as these help keep the body’s hunger signals from firing, which means you’ll be less tempted to eat and you’ll feel full on less food than if you were eating something like a cookie or a bag of chips.

    Great post!

    There seems to be a fascination with exercise for weight loss. I find its MUCH easier to not eat a 400 calorie burger than it is to run an hour on the treadmill.
